Healthy Teen Dieting
Dieting is a decision one makes to eat healthier, usually a specific kind of food in certain portions for the purpose of weight management. Most of the time dieting occurs in order to cut some of those unwanted or extra pounds or not to put on any additional weight.
Dieting in teens can be tricky because teenagers have different metabolisms than those people who are older. Depending on the activity level of the teen dieting can be a tricky issue. Under-eating is a big issue in teens because they burn though calories fast
Sometimes when starting a diet it can be very difficult and the teen’s parents must think very carefully about what they eat to ensure the teen to get enough calories without getting all of the oils and fats that we want to avoid. Also those people with medical problems like diabetes and other food allergies must avoid certain foods.
Most teenagers, say they are dieting to lose weight. Statistics say that over half of all girls in the United States have tried dieting at one time or another to lose those unwanted pounds. However, a lot of these dieters are dieting for the wrong reasons or dieting the wrong way.
Girls specifically who try dieting without the help of a professional are 20 times more likely to develop an eating disorder such as anorexia. The first thing you should consider if you are a teen that is trying to lose unwanted extra pounds is not to go straight to dieting. First try becoming more active. Exercising can be the most effective way to lose weight.
Most people who get on a strict diet end up by gaining weight because they binge eat when they can no longer stick to the rules of this strict diet. The most important thing to remember about dieting is to create a habit of 'healthy eating' and doing more exercise on a regular basis.
One of the main issues with teens trying specialized or “fad” diets is that they are not sustainable for a long time. You need to learn to eat healthy at a young age and continue this into your adulthood.
All food and beverages have some sort of calories, fats, and sugars. Some of these are great for you and needed for your day to day life. How much energy the foods contain is usually measured in calories.
If you eat to many of these calories you gain weight and if you eat too few you can actually gain weight and have health concerns. Finding the right amount of calories to eat and burn each day will allow you to be the healthiest you can be. Everyone has a different Body Mass Index. This is the amount of calories you need per day and the amount of calories you burn each day.
If you are under the age of 18 years old, you are still growing and developing. During this time of your life you need a variety of foods to help you grow. The best way to do this is to get the recommended amount of fruits, vegetables, meats, fats, and grains each day. You can find these recommended amounts on the updated food pyramid. If you exercise and eat healthy and you still feel you need to lose more weight don’t take matters into your own hands. You first need to talk with your Doctor. Your traditional family doctor should be able to identify your BMI and can help you safely lose those extra pounds.
Remember if you are a teen and you feel like you need to lose a few extra pounds or even a lot of extra weight you first need to increase your daily activity level and you need to start eating healthier. If you are still not seeing the results you would like please seek your doctors opinion.
